WELCOME TO THE NEIGHBOURHOOD THE VALLEY LIVING

January 13, 2022News

By Kerry Neil, ED, Downtown Squamish

In late December I was kindly invited to sit down with Taylor Hobbs, the owner and curator of The Valley Living, a beautiful and elegant home and lifestyle store in Downtown Squamish. We managed to carve out some time in what was a busy holiday season for everyone and I got to know more about Taylor, the store and her aspirations for the future.

Taylor was born and raised in Vancouver and relocated to Squamish a few years ago with a dream of opening a home store. Knowing there was a gap in the market here in Squamish, Taylor built on her experience in customer and product design (first as a Sales Rep for Levi’s then switching to Product Development for Herschel Supply co.) using her wealth of knowledge and experience to curate a home store full of beautiful things.

If you have not had the chance to pop by yet, you should. A light and airy space will welcome you offering an uncluttered view of the collection Taylor has hand-picked. From furniture and rugs to homewares and infant clothing, Taylor tries her best to purchase from local, smaller businesses and over 80% of the store comes from female-run businesses. The space has a feminine and natural feel, incorporating different materials, natural textures and clean lines.  I asked Taylor what she loved most about owning a business in Squamish and she went on to say how she was so blown away by the Squamish community support.

From Sunflower Bakery dropping off donuts on opening week to local people going out of their way to come into the store and support her. She’s also very hopeful that her store, offering more options will help attract people to stop and shop in Downtown Squamish when they are visiting Squamish.

Opening day was a real highlight for Taylor, the turnout that day reassured her that all the hard work and dedication would pay off. She is excited to grow in the community and is already thinking of ways The Valley Living can branch out.  She will be launching her e-commerce shop shortly and is looking to hire a like-minded person to bounce ideas and share in the wins and the losses.

Billies House is one of Taylor’s favourite downtown businesses to support, she can often be found there picking up fresh flowers and plants for the store. Another highlight for Taylor is the new clothing store Spruce and company on Cleveland Avenue and her neighbour Manpuku Sushi is her favourite must go lunchtime spot. Taylor aspires for Downtown Squamish to become a shopping destination, small businesses completing each other, building a strong and resilient business culture. She is not exactly sure what the future holds but rest assured she is very excited about it! Taylor, we are very excited to welcome you to Downtown Squamish!
