Proudly caring for the heart of our communityJuly 22, 2025NewsWhy We’re Launching a Clean-Up Pilot Project
Downtown Squamish is the heart of our community, a place where residents connect, businesses thrive, and visitors experience the charm and character that make our town so special. This summer, the Downtown Squamish Business Improvement Association (DSBIA) is proud to launch a 3-month pilot project aimed at making our downtown even more welcoming, vibrant, and beautiful.
Funded by the DSBIA this initiative is focused on tackling visible signs of wear and tear in the downtown core. We’ve partnered with Goodbye Graffiti to remove graffiti, stickers, posters, and other urban clutter, as well as repaint peeling benches and freshen up neglected spaces. It’s about more than just aesthetics; it’s about community pride and creating a space that reflects the care we have for our town.

This project comes in response to feedback from businesses, residents, and visitors alike. As our town grows, so does the importance of maintaining a clean and inviting downtown. First impressions matter, whether you’re opening shop in the morning, grabbing lunch with friends, or welcoming tourists who are exploring Squamish for the first time.
A cleaner downtown:
-
-
- Supports our local businesses by enhancing the overall customer experience.
- Encourages community members to spend more time enjoying our public spaces.
- Promotes safety, pride, and a sense of collective ownership.
- Sets a strong visual standard for the kind of town we want to be — vibrant, respectful, and cared for.
This is a pilot project, which means we’re testing and learning as we go. Over the next three months, we’ll assess what works best, what areas need more attention, and how we can build long-term strategies for maintenance and beautification in the future. Community feedback will be an essential part of this process.
The success of this project depends not just on paint and elbow grease, but on a shared commitment to keeping our downtown clean and beautiful. Whether you’re a business owner, resident, or visitor, we invite you to be part of this effort, by taking pride in your storefront, reporting vandalism, or simply appreciating the work being done.
This is just one of many ways the DSBIA is investing in our downtown. We believe that a clean and cared-for downtown is a thriving downtown, and we’re excited to take this step forward together.
Proudly caring for the heart of our community.
