The Downtown Squamish Business Improvement Association [Downtown Squamish] is inviting Visual Artists and Graphic Designers to submit proposals for the creation of a new visual identity.
BACKGROUND:
Over the past year, Downtown Squamish has worked with members, partners and the broader community to inform a new strategic brand model. The model will be used as a tool to support the operations, marketing and communications of the organization, starting with an updated 5 year strategic plan and new website in 2026. The successful applicant(s) will use this model to inspire a cohesive visual identity for broad use across all digital and print applications.
SCOPE OF WORK:
WHAT:
- Logo & supporting design elements (frames/icons etc.)
- Primary (& secondary) colour palettes
- Key fonts (logo, headings, body copy, social media etc.)
- Style examples for:
- Imagery (images/video aesthetic)
- Maps and icons (on-brand mini map)
- Future wayfinding/signage
- Mock-ups (proof of concept): website homepage & poster (tbd)
- Visual design guidelines document (outlining above)
- Potential to then continue with Production Design for launch
HOW:
- Deliverables: Presentation deck (identity overview) and usable digital files.
- Longevity: The identity must have the flexibility to grow alongside the organization for years to come.
- Repurposability: The design must be able to be repurposed across multiple platforms and creative expressions.
- Exclusivity: Downtown Squamish will be given exclusive use of all design elements in perpetuity.
- Originality: All proposals submitted must be original works that have not been previously submitted to any other calls or contests.
WHO/WHY:
- Locals: Normalize roaming Downtown.
- Day Trippers: Showcase Downtown Squamish as both a destination and a prolonged pit stop.
- Members: Build pride of place, and foster connection to Downtown Squamish beyond their own interests.
WHEN:
Oct 19 – Designer contract finalized & designer briefed
Nov 9 – Initial visual identity concepts
Nov 17 – Feedback to designer
Dec 7 – Revised visual identity concepts
Dec 14 – Feedback to designer
Dec 22 – Final visual identity revisions
Jan 9 – Final visual identity approvals & all files submitted
Jan 12 – Production design begins
